ALEX LAM
HEAD COACH
Alex first started coaching in 2012 and discovered he had a passion for youth ultimate on the west coast. He became a coordinator for the Vancouver Misfit Club Program and helped it grow to 11 teams — six of which regularly attend CJUC. He also developed off-season training programs and skills clinics to help players prevent injuries and to provide playing opportunities throughout the years. He strives to give youth frisbee players, of any level, a place to play competitively and to better themselves as athletes. Since then, Alex has coached a team to finals at CJUC every year since 2018. Taking gold home in 2019, 2023, and 2024. He has also had the privilege of coaching team Canada U20 in 2022 and 2024. Additionally, Alex has also coached adult at a high level, bringing Red Flag to a worlds club championships silver in 2022. Alex is currently coaching UBC Men's Ultimate.

JUSTIN PODNAR
ASSISTANT COACH
Since beginning his coaching journey in 2021, Justin has built a strong foundation of experience across various competitive levels. His coaching highlights include leading Dyno to a gold medal, and contributing to the development of elite athletes in the Canadian ultimate community. Justin brings high-level competitive experience as a player, having played for the UBC Men’s Ultimate Team and earning a silver medal with Red Flag at the 2022 World Ultimate Club Championships. Internationally, he has represented Canada multiple times, including with the U24 National Team in 2023 and 2025, and earned a silver medal with Team Canada Mixed at the 2024 World Ultimate Championships. He is currently a member of the World Games roster. Justin is passionate about sharing his high-level experience and tactical insight to help push the next generation of Canadian athletes to new heights.

WILLIAM TANG
ASSISTANT COACH
William began his ultimate career in 2016, playing for multiple junior club teams resulting in a gold medal during his final junior season in 2019. After graduating high school, he joined Blackfish Ultimate, competing with them from 2020 through 2022. Alongside his playing career, William transitioned into coaching—starting with high school teams and progressing to both junior and senior club levels. On the junior side, he coached Dyno Open in 2023 and 2024, who won back-to-back gold medals. At the senior level, he coached Blackfish Open in 2023 and is set to coach Furious George B in the upcoming season. William has also contributed to the collegiate scene as the assistant coach for the UBC Men’s Ultimate team. He is excited to return with Dyno with new experiences and strategy that he has accumulated throughout this past year.

HEAD COACH
Victoria’s frisbee career started by playing Jr club and UBC Tbirds from 2011-2016. She has represented Canada with U24 Women’s in 2013 and 2015, and again in 2018 for WCUC with Banana Cutters where she played along side both of her brothers. Her love for coaching started with returning to her high school, but she really developed her skills when she started coaching Jr club teams from 2013 to present, winning Gold in 2017, 2022, 2023 and 2024. She is excited to return with Prime and coach Dyno. As a Junior player, the coaches and experience had such a positive impact on her as a person and athlete so she is excited to continue giving back as a coach.

ASSISTANT COACH
Jamie has been playing competitive ultimate for 5 years and currently plays for the UBC Women’s Ultimate Team. She has previously shadow coached Dyno Women’s (2023) and assistant coached Turbo Women’s (2024). Jamie is excited to continue sharing her knowledge and experience with the next generation of athletes.

MIU SHIRAIWA
ASSISTANT COACH
Miu has been coaching the top provincial Junior women’s club team since the summer of 2021, assisting Eclipse to a gold medal at CJUC in 2022 and Dyno in 2023 & 2024. Some of her playing achievements include making the U20 and U24 Team Canada women’s teams in 2020 and 2023, winning gold with Red Flag at CUC 2023, and bronze with Richmond Royals at CUC 2024. She is looking forward to taking part in building a community of strong female matching junior players with Prime once more.

Ben is a product of the Prime pipeline and has made his mark at every level—earning gold with Dyno and representing Canada on the U20 Mixed National Team, where he helped secure a silver medal on the world stage. Now in his second season with Furious George, Ben brings top-tier playing experience and a competitive mindset to the Nitro coaching staff. Returning for his second year as a coach, Ben’s passion for the game drives his approach. With a focus on hard work, growth, and team culture, he is committed to helping Nitro make a strong run this summer.

COLIN WU
CO-COACH
Colin is a former Prime Player representing Prime Dyno and Prime Penguins where they won gold and CJUC and C4JUC. He also represented Team Canada in 2024 at the U20 World Junior Ultimate Championships where they took 2nd place. Colin plans to use his diverse skill set and playing experience towards his coaching and hopes to motivate his players to be the best they can be.

SHINTARO TSUKAMOTO

Originally from Toronto, Coach Shintaro (Shiny (He/Him)) started playing Ultimate in 2014 and has since played for teams based in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Vancouver. He has been coaching since 2018 and has most recently coached the UBC BBirds and Turbo Open. Shiny is looking forward to working with the next generation of ultimate players this summer with Nitro Open.

Joshua has been coaching Ultimate for 4 years, including high school at VCS and club with Prime last year. From playing Dyno to Team Canada, Joshua brings high level experience and passion that he hopes to share with Nitro players this summer. Throughout the season he is excited to help develop players’ skills and love for the game, believing that playing smart is just as important, or even more, than playing hard.

Mijoo is excited to return to coach Nitro Women, bringing valuable experience from having played with UBC Women's, Traffic, and Team Canada U20. She looks forward to helping athletes build confidence in their abilities and push their limits in a supportive environment.

ASSISTANT COACH
Lauren has represented Canada at the U20 level, placing 3rd in 2022 and 2nd in 2024, and is currently competing with the U24 Women’s team and UBC women’s frisbee. With Prime, she has won four national titles and has also played with Red Flag Ultimate from 2022-2024. Lauren is stoked to help build a strong team culture, and hopes to provide other aspiring athletes with the same positive experience she had.

ASSISTANT COACH
Eli played Junior club ultimate from 2022-2024, notably playing for Prime Dyno over the past two summers. He was first introduced to coaching by Elevate Ultimate in 2023 where he is now a head coach. Through his experiences as a player at Prime and a coach at Elevate, Eli has been inspired to coach club Ultimate where he hopes to teach the next generation of Ultimate Frisbee players.

Miles is a current Furious George, UBC, and TC U24 athlete with a decorated junior ultimate career including two CUC golds. Miles is excited to push competitive and driven athletes past their limits to outperform expectations.

Danae has previously played with Vancouver Eclipse, Dyno, and TC U20 Women’s and Mixed (2022 & 2024). She is excited to coach this year working with Turbo! Danae is looking forward to helping athletes reach their goals and develop their skills.

Steffi has been playing ultimate for 6 years with various teams such as Eclipse, Dyno, and the UVic Vikes. She loves the community that ultimate brings and is dedicated to creating an inclusive and competitive atmosphere for athletes.

Emily started playing ultimate in high school in Vancouver, and has since played for Dyno Women’s, Tula Women’s, Toronto Union, and TC U20 and U24 mixed. She’s looking forward to getting to work with newer ultimate players to help them grow their skills and have fun playing with a team!
